Alice Guo: Chinese spy in Al Jazeera docu using me for 'media mileage'

Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo thinks that self-confessed Chinese spy She Zhijiang tagged her as a Chinese state agent for "media mileage."

Guo made the remark at the continuation of the Senate investigation into the illegal POGOs where a video interview of She's former cellmate and friend, Wang Fu Gui, was played and confirmed the accusation in the Al Jazeera documentary.

Guo maintained that she is not a Chinese spy and she does not know She.

"Madam chair, hindi ko po sya kilala," Guo said.

(Madam chair, I don't know him.)

Amid her denial, Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada asked Guo why she was chosen by She to be named as a Chinese spy.

"Bakit sa dinami dami ng tao ikaw ang napili niya na sabihin na ikaw ay espiya?" Estrada asked.

(Why were you chosen to be named as a spy? There are so many people, but he mentioned you.)

"Tingin ko po baka gusto lang din niya ng media mileage ko po ngayon kasi sobrang taas ng media mileage ko po ngayon. Possible po," said Guo.

Asked if She was just "using" her, Guo said, "Para sa akin po. Kasi hindi ko po sya kilala."

(I think he is using me because I don't know him at all.)

"Kaya hihingi din po ako ng tulong po sa inyo. Tulungan niyo po ako mag-imbestiga. Hindi po ako spy at para naman po hindi ako magmukhang kawawa talaga," Guo asked senators.

Testimonies

Guo also supported the move of Senator Risa Hontiveros to get the testimonies straight from She.

"Maganda rin po 'yung narinig ko kay madam chair na through our government agency po sana ma-invite po natin siya kahit through zoom meeting lang din po para malaman din po natin kasi hindi ako spy at hindi ko po talaga siya kilala," Guo said.

(The suggestion of the committee chairperson to invite She Zhijiang through our government agencies even through video teleconferencing is welcome so we can establish that I am not a spy and I do not know him.)

The dismissed mayor also denied knowing "Ma Dongli" who was tagged by Wang as She and Guo's state security contact or "handler."

"Wala po akong handler, hindi po ako spy, hindi ko po siya kilala, madam chair," Guo said.

According to Guo, no one has ever approached her regarding the Chinese ministry of state security's recruitment.

"Never po. wala po (none)," she said.

Guo earlier denied accusations raised against her in the Al Jazeera documentary.

Her camp earlier raised the possibility of filing a case against the international news channel over the documentary.

Guo is facing a qualified human trafficking case before a Pasig court as well as a graft case before a Valenzuela court in connection with her alleged involvement in the illegal POGOs in Bamban.

A quo warranto petition was also filed against Guo with a Manila court as well as a petition to cancel her birth certificate before a Tarlac court.

She is also facing a tax evasion complaint as well as 87 counts for money laundering before the Justice Department. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
