740 inmates released from August to October


A total of 740 persons deprived of liberty or PDLs were released from August 31 to October

A total of 740 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released from August 31 to October, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said Tuesday.

According to BuCor, this brought the total number of PDLs released under the Marcos administration to 16,657.

Data from BuCor said that 459 of the PDLs were released due to the expiration of their maximum sentence, 147 were acquitted, 40 were released on probation, and 86 were on parole, among others. 

Meanwhile, 375 of the PDLs were from the New Bilibid Prison, 61 from the Correctional Institution for Women, 106 from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm, 31 from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, 21 from the Leyte Regional Prison, 41 from the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm, and 105 from the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm.

“Each time we release a PDL, we are giving him or her a chance to embark on a new chapter in his or her life  and every release is more than just a statistic,” BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang said in a statement.

“It is a story of resilience, hope and a chance to start a new life,” he added.

Also present during the activity were Presidential Adviser on Muslim Affairs Almarim Tillah Al Haj, Associate Justice Marian Ivy Reyes-Fajardo, Justice Assistant Secretaries Francis John Tejano and Randold Pascasiom, and Board of Pardons and Parole chairperson Sergio Calizo.
