Benhur Abalos formalizes senatorial bid for Eleksyon 2025

Interior Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr. on Monday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator for the 2025 midterm elections.

For formalizing his candidacy, Abalos is now deemed resigned from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

"Madami tayong tatalakayin. Una, kuryente, tingnan namin bakit nagkakaganun. Yung bang mga VAT (value added tax), yung ating mga grid. Pangalawa, tingnan natin yung agrikultuta, tingnan natin yung mga farmers,” Abalos said. 

(We have a lot to discuss. First is electricity. Let us look at the problem, also the VAT and the grid. Second, we will look into agriculture and our farmers.)

Abalos is part of the Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas, the administration’s senatorial slate in next year's midterm elections. 

Abalos was appointed as DILG secretary in 2022. He first won as mayor of Mandaluyong City in 1998 and became chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority in 2021. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
