BI looks into Shiela Guo’s deportation case

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Friday conducted a hearing on the deportation case of Shiela Guo, the sister of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo.

According to John Consulta’s report on “24 Oras,” the National Bureau of Investigation strictly secured Guo when she personally attended the hearing. Also present were officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Guo was asked during the hearing to stand beside her passport photo shown on the screen.

“Para sa aking pansariling ebalwasyon, makita natin ang facial features ni Shiela Guo. Kasi itinatanggi niya, yung tao ay nandoon, yung passport ay nandoon,” said BI Board of Special Inquiry chairperson Gilberto Repizo.

(That was just for my personal evaluation, so we can fully see her facial features. Because she was denying that she was the same person in the passport.)

The BI earlier charged Guo, who is also known as Zhang Mier, for misrepresentation as a Filipino citizen because of the two passports that were recovered from her - one Filipino passport and three Chinese passports.

The camp of Guo was asked to submit a memorandum within seven days before the BI’s board of special inquiry lodges a decision in 15 days.

The BI said that if Guo is found guilty in a local case in the Philippines, she needs to face the penalty meted out by the court before she could be deported.

“What’s so important about the case of Shiela Guo is that this is a precedent-setting case, marami pa lang ganito. So pwedeng on the basis of our procedures, on the basis of exchanges, ganito na rin ang gagawin namin para di na patagalin,” said Repizo.

(What’s so important about the case of Sheila Guo is that this is a precedent-setting case and there are many of them. So we can do the same actions on similar cases on the basis of our procedures, or on the basis of exchanges to hasten our action.)

Further, the bureau also said that it could also conduct a hearing on the deportation case of her sister Alice. —Vince Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
