SSS chief Macasaet resigns to seek party-list seat

Social Security System (SSS) president and chief executive officer Rolando Ledesma Macasaet has stepped down from his post as he accepted the nomination of a party-list group vying for a House seat in the May 2025 elections.

In a statement on Friday, SSS-GSIS Pensyonado party-list said Macasaet submitted his “irrevocable resignation” to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday, October 3.

Citing the resigned SSS chief’s letter, the party-list group said Macasaet informed Marcos that he would be filing his Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA) as SSS-GSIS Pensyonado’s nominee on October 6.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order against the Commission on Elections' rule that allows public appointive officials to continue serving after being nominated as a party-list representative.

“As former chief of SSS and GSIS, Mr. Macasaet has a firm understanding of how the national pension system works, and as a pensioner himself, he knows what the limitations of these institutions are—limitations that may be addressed through legislative representation,” said SSS-GSIS Pensyonado party-list spokesperson Fercival Yutan.

The party-list group said that SSS achieved a record 2.4 million new members for the first seven months of 2024 under Macasaet’s tenure, which began in January 2023. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
