DOJ looking into spy allegation vs Alice Guo
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is looking into reports that dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo is a Chinese spy, an official said Thursday.
Justice Undersecretary Nicky Ty said they will coordinate with the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) and National Security Agency (NSA) to determine the veracity of the information.
“Susunod kami sa papayuhin ng mga intelligence agencies natin kasi sila talaga magve-vet kung reliable ba ‘yung sinabi nitong Tsino na ito, ‘yung espiya,” Ty said on Dobol B TV.
(We will follow the lead of our intelligence agencies because they are the ones who will vet whether the information given by this Chinese is reliable.)
“Tapos sila din mag sasabi kung anong mga hakbang na dapat gawin upang talagang maipatunay itong balitang ito,” he added.
(They will also decide on the necessary steps to take in order to verify this information.)
According to Ty, the allegation is a national security concern.
Guo, also identified as Chinese national Guo Hua Ping, was tagged as a Chinese spy by Chinese-Cambodian businessman She Zhijiang in a report by international news channel Al Jazeera.
Guo has denied knowing or having any connection with She, who is reportedly a former Chinese spy.
Guo is facing a qualified human trafficking case before a Pasig court as well as a graft case before a Valenzuela court.
A quo warranto petition was also filed against her with a Manila court as well as a petition to cancel her birth certificate before a Tarlac court.
Guo is also facing a tax evasion complaint as well as 87 counts for money laundering before the Justice Department. She is being linked to a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub that was raided by authorities over alleged illegal activities. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
