Imee Marcos files COC for reelection bid in Eleksyon 2025

Imee Marcos files COC for reelection bid in Eleksyon 2025

Senator Imee Marcos on Wednesday formalized her reelection bid in the 2025 elections by filing her certificate of candidacy (COC) with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Sen. Marcos, sister of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., filed her COC under the Nacionalista Party (NP) accompanied by her sons, Borgy and Michael Manotoc, and her mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

While Sen. Marcos is included in the 12-strong administration slate dubbed Alyansa ng Bagong Pilipinas given that NP has forged an alliance pact with the Pres. Marcos-led Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, she reiterated on Wednesday that she will not join the team during the campaign

"Hindi po ako kaalyado ng anumang pangkat, anumang sektor, anumang grupo. Kaya tinataya ko na ako ay mananatiling malaya at matatag," Sen. Marcos said.

(I am not allied with any group, any sector. That's why I promise to remain free and firm.)

Sen. Marcos won her first six-year Senate term in 2019 under the Hugpong ng Pagbabago slate led by then-Davao City Mayor and now Vice President Sara Duterte, daughter of then-President Rodrigo Duterte.

First for the day

Before Sen. Marcos, 70-year-old Victoriano Inte filed his COC for senator — the first on Day 2 of the filing of COC for next year's elections.

Inte, who filed COC on a hurt left foot which he said was a result of him accidentally stepping on broken glass, said he wants to "help my Filipino brothers and sisters."

Asked if his lack of political experience is a cause of concern, Inte replied, "That's okay."  —KBK, GMA Integrated News
