Nancy Binay files COC for Makati mayor

Senator Nancy Binay on Monday filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for Makati mayor for the 2025 midterm elections.

Binay filed her COC with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Makati together with her running-mate, former Makati Representative Monsour del Rosario.

In a statement, Sen. Binay thanked the longtime supporters of her family, given that a Binay family member has ruled Makati City since 1987. Her father, Jejomar Binay, was a long-time Makati mayor before he was elected vice president in 2010.

"Maraming salamat po sa atin pong mga kababayan sa Makati. Nakakataba po ng puso ang inyong mainit na pagtanggap at ipinakitang suporta sa akin po, pati na po sa aking mga kasama. Masaya po ako dahil mula noon hanggang ngayon, naririyan po kayo palagi para suportahan ang Pamilyang Binay,” Sen. Binay said.

(Thank you very much to Makati residents. I appreciate your warm welcome and support not only for me but for my companions as well. I am happy that you have supported the Binay family ever since.)

Makati's incumbent mayor is Nancy's sister Abby, one of the administration's Senate bets for next year's elections.

Sen. Binay was first elected to the Senate in 2013 and was reelected in 2019, making her current tenure her last since the Constitution only allows a senator to sit for two consecutive six-year terms.

Abby, on the other hand, first won as Makati mayor in 2016 and was reelected in 2019 and 2022. The Constitution allows a mayor to sit for three consecutive three-year terms only. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
