Kabayan first party-list to file CONA for #Eleksyon2025

Kabayan Party-list on Tuesday morning became the first group to file a certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) for the 2025 midterm elections.

Incumbent Representative Ron Salo, who filed the CONA for Kabayan Party-list at the Manila Hotel Tent City, said he will serve as the campaign manager.

Its first nominee is Dr. Jewehl Gay, followed by pastor Paul Hernandez, and eight others.

“Nais ng Kabayan Party-list na ituloy ang mga naumpisahan nito na mga adbokasiya, mga isinusulong na polisiya at panukalang batas sa Kongreso,” Salo said, adding that the party-list pushes for advocacies on health, livelihood, housing, education, and OFW concerns.

(The Kabayan party-list wants to continue the advocacy it started, as well as the proposed policies and bills filed in Congress.)

He also acknowledged former presidential spokesman Harry Roque as a former member of the Kabayan Party-list, but had a say regarding the latter’s current strain on the House QuadComm which has been investigating POGO-related crimes and the war on drugs.

“Of course, ang panawagn natin sa kanya ay pakinggan niya ang pagtawag sa kanya. Sapagkat tandaan natin na may kapangyarihan ang Kongreso at hindi naman ito conviction. Ang hinihingi lang naman po ng Kongreso ay pagpapaliwanag lalo na sa mga dokumento na kanyang cinommit na ibigay sa committee mismo, sa QuadComm, pero hindi niya naibigay,” Salo said.

(Of course, we urge him to listen to our call. Let's remember that the Congress has power but what we’re doing is not a conviction. The only thing Congress is asking from him is an explanation, especially on the documents that he committed to give to the QuadComm itself, but he did not provide.)

Roque was earlier cited in contempt and ordered detained by the QuadComm last September 13 after he refused to submit documents that would supposedly justify the increase in his wealth.

In 2017, Kabayan Party-list removed Roque as its member and representative in Congress.

Meanwhile, Bumbero ng Pilipinas also filed its CONA for the 2025 polls. Its first nominee is former Energy undersecretary and PDP-Laban official Astra Pimentel.
