Bongbong honors dad Marcos Sr. on 35th death anniversary

Bongbong Marcos penned a message to honor the memory of his late father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Saturday penned a message to honor the memory of his late father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., on the latter’s death anniversary.

“My father lived in service to our country. He advocated for development, justice, unity and nationalism,” the President said in a post on his Facebook and Instagram accounts.

“Above all his beliefs was his faith in the Filipino people,” Marcos said.

The President also recalled the promise he made to his father, who died while in exile in Hawaii on this day in 1989 —two years after the over two-decade long Marcos regime was ended by an uprising.

“Thirty-five years ago, I made a promise to honor his life's work by building on this foundation. In some way, I hope that I have made you proud, Dad. We miss you every day,” Marcos said.

Marcos Sr. was the country’s 10th president, who served from 1965 until he was ousted from office through the People Power Revolution in February 1986.

The late president’s remains were brought home in September 1993 and had since been lying inside a glass coffin and on public display at the Marcos Museum and Mausoleum in Batac, Ilocos Norte until it was transferred in the Libingan ng Mga Bayani in 2016 via an order by then President Rodrigo Duterte.
