Akbayan party-list representative takes oath before Romualdez

Akbayan Percival Cendaña Martin Romualdez

Akbayan party-list representative Percival Cendaña took his oath before Speaker Martin Romualdez on Wednesday night.

Cendaña took his oath on the same day that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday proclaimed Akbayan one of the winners in the 2022 party-list race entitled to one seat in the House of Representatives.

Cendaña will sit as a member of the House until June 30, 2025, as provided under Section 7, Article 6 of the Philippine Constitution.

His tenure marks a comeback for Akbayan, whose winning streak in securing a seat in the House was snapped in 2019.

Among those who joined Cendaña during his oathtaking is former Akbayan chairperson and ex-Commission on Human Rights chairperson Etta Rosales, Akbayan President Rafaela David, among others.

The poll body’s National Board of Canvassers issued the proclamation dated September 25 after the Supreme Court upheld the cancellation of the registration of the An Waray party-list for allowing its second nominee Victoria Isabel Noel to sit as a member of the House without proper authority. —NB, GMA Integrated News
