Senate lifts contempt order vs Shiela Guo, orders her transfer to BI custody

A Senate committee on Tuesday lifted the contempt order issued against Shiela Guo, the purported sister of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, and ordered her transfer to the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

“Shiela Guo, the Senate’s contempt order on you is lifted and I direct the OSAA (Office of Senate Sergeant-at-Arms) to transfer your custody to the BI pursuant to the mission order issued by the Bureau against you,” Senator Risa Hontiveros said.

Hontiveros issued the remark during the resumption of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality into illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).

Shiela Guo, also identified by authorities as Chinese citizen Zhang Mier, is facing charges for Disobedience to Summons by the Senate and for allegedly using a fake Philippine passport. She is also a respondent in the money laundering complaint filed against Alice Guo before the Department of Justice.

The Senate cited Shiela Guo in contempt and ordered her arrest in July.

She was arrested with Cassandra Li Ong, the authorized representative of a raided POGO hub in Porac, Pampanga, in Indonesia on August 22. They were brought back to the Philippines on the same day.

During a Senate hearing on August 27, Shiela Guo told the senators that they left the Philippines by riding several boats during the first week of July.

Alice Guo is facing graft as well as qualified trafficking charges before a Valenzuela and a Pasig court, respectively. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
