BI arrests 2 South Korean fugitives

Two South Korean fugitives wanted in their country over alleged involvement in gambling and drug smuggling were apprehended in separate operations, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said. 

In a news release, the BI said the Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) nabbed Nam Sundong in Manuyo Dos, Las Piñas City.

Nam is wanted for allegedly setting up places for gambling in violation of South Korea’s criminal act. He is likewise the subject of an Interpol red notice following an arrest warrant issued against him by Ulsan District Court in 2023.

Meanwhile, immigration officials arrested Lee Hyunhak, 23, in Clark, Pampanga after an interpol Red Notice was issued against him following an arrest warrant from the Busan District Court.

Lee was wanted for allegedly smuggling drugs and repeatedly conspiring with accomplices to import 480.85 grams of methamphetamine to Korea, in violation of the Republic of Korea’s Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Narcotics Smuggling. 

The smuggled drugs amounted to 500,000 Korean Won or over P208,000.

The Korean government have revoked the passports of Nam and Lee. They are currently under the custody of the BI facility in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig pending their deportation. —Sundy Locus/AOL, GMA Integrated News
