CICC to monitor use of AI, deep fakes in May 2025 polls

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) will monitor the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and deep fakes in the 2025 national and local elections (NLE).

“The public will be misled to a lot of contents na hindi na natin alam kung ano ang magiging totoo at hindi,” said CICC Director Alexander Ramos in Nico Waje’s report on “Unang Balita” Monday.

“Right now, we have sufficient technology to look at it,” Ramos said.

The CICC said it is coordinating with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in possible solutions including the content monitoring of false information.

The poll body earlier said candidates vying for positions in the 2025 NLE and Bangsamoro polls should declare if they use campaign materials created using AI and disclose its nature and extent of its usage.

Comelec also said the preparations for the polls are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the second batch of machines to be used for the printing of ballots arrived in the country.

Latest data from the Comelec showed the number of registered voters reached 66 million while the deactivated voters for the 2025 May elections stood at 5.37 million.

The voter registration period for the May 2025 midterm polls started on February 12, and will end on September 30, 2024.

Applicants may register from Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at any Comelec office nationwide.

Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia earlier said there will be no extension for the September 30 voter registration deadline. —Sundy Locus/AOL, GMA Integrated News
