Death toll due to Habagat, Ferdie, Gener, Helen, Igme climbs to 25


Flood in Roxas, Palawan due to heavy rains

The reported death toll due to the effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and tropical cyclones Ferdie, Gener, Helen and Igme reached 25, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Saturday.

In its situational report, the NDRRMC also said the total number of casualties is still being validated.

Of the 25 reported fatalities, 10 are in Mimaropa, five in Region 6, two in Region 7, four in Region 9, and four in BARMM.

Meanwhile, 13 were reported injured (three confirmed and 10 for validation) and eight missing (six validated and two for validation).

The NDRRMC also said a total of 1,449,333 individuals or 387,755 families were affected.

Of this number, 5,783 families or 23,512 persons stayed inside 199 evacuation centers. Those who were served outside evacuation centers numbered 11,778 families of 50,695 individuals.

There were five rain-induced landslides -- three in Region 2 and one each in Calabarzon and Region 5.

A total of 42 areas meanwhile got flooded, with floodwaters in 113 of these areas already subsided.

Thirty-five roads and five bridges remained not passable out of the 122 total road sections and 14 bridges affected.

Forty-seven cities/municipalities experienced power interruption. Thirty-six of these areas had their power supply fully restored.

Fifty-two seaports were affected by the bad weather, with 43 still rendered non-operational or with canceled trips.

Meanwhile, 1,541 passengers, 46 rolling cargoes, 18 vessels, and two motorbancas remained stranded.

The NDRRMC also said 2,345 houses were damaged, and of these number, 349 were totally damaged. Majority of the damaged houses were located in Region 6.

The bad weather also resulted in agricultural damage totalling P600,831,660.43, and infrastructure damage estimated to reach P22,571,500.

Seven cities and municipalities declared a state of calamity.

Meanwhile, 147,928 families were identified as needing assistance estimated to be worth P43,239,034.58.

So far, 44,822 families have been assisted, most of them in Region 6.

Tropical Depression Igme exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday before dawn.

Ferdie exited PAR on September 14, while Gener and Helen left PAR on September 18.

The tropical cyclones enhanced the Southwest Monsoon which brought rains to several areas. —KG, GMA Integrated News
