A fisherman who went missing for 46 days was found alive off Batanes waters

A fisherman who went missing for 46 days was found alive off Batanes waters on Thursday, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Friday.

In a statement, the PCG said 49-year-old Robin Dejillo of Infanta, Quezon has been reported missing since August 4.

The Coast Guard Station (CGS) Batanes received information from their patrol team that they sighted a white motorbanca with an elderly man on board.

“Mr. Dejillo shared that he failed to return to their mother boat after his motorbanca ran out of gas while conducting a fishing venture,” the PCG said.

“He survived for more than a month at sea by drinking rainwater and eating fish. He was also sustained by coconuts floating on water,” it added.

The responders towed his boat to the Port of Basco.

From the port, the PCG said Dejillo was brought to the Batanes General Hospital for medical treatment.
