‘NO SACRED COW’

PNP says ex-chief linked to Alice Guo to be held liable

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Rommel Marbil vowed that the former PNP chief who is allegedly linked to dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo will be held liable, a police spokesperson said Wednesday.

“Ang gusto niyang iparating sa ating mga kasamahan sa media na there is no sacred cow dito sa gagawing investigation even if it means holding liable ang isang former Chief PNP,” PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing.

(What Gen. Marbil wants to convey to our colleagues in the media is that there is no sacred cow here in the investigation even if it means holding a former Chief PNP liable.)

“Regardless kung sinong tatamaan dito kung mapapatunayan na meron siyang kinalaman dun sa sinasabing tumulong sa pagtakas, and worse ay nakaka-receive ng monthly payola, then again wala tayong palalampasin dito at patatawarin. Sabi nga niya ‘no sacred cows’ regardless kung sino ka pa,” she added.

(Regardless of who will be implicated here, if it is proven that he was involved with the escape and worse, receiving a monthly payoff then again we will not exempt or excuse him. Gen. Marbil said “no sacred cows” regardless of who you are.)

On Tuesday, PAGCOR official Raul Villanueva, a retired general and former commander at the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP), said a former PNP chief allegedly helped Guo leave the country.

According to Villanueva, they have received reports of an alleged former PNP chief who is part of Guo's "monthly payroll" but the information is still under verification.

Fajardo said the PNP had 30 chiefs including its current head Marbil. Of the 29 former PNP chiefs, five have already passed away.

“We’re talking about 24 names…In fairness to those former Chief PNP, I think they are in the position to answer on their behalf.,” Fajardo said.

On Tuesday, Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa during the Senate hearing took the opportunity to prevent his name from being dragged into the allegations.

Dela Rosa, PNP chief during the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte, raised a series of questions to Guo in a bid to clarify that he was not the former PNP chief that Villanueva was referring to.

"Puwede bang malaman kung sino itong former Chief PNP? I am concerned because I am a former Chief PNP. Baka mamaya merong lalabas na script d'yan na si Bato ay tumatanggap ng pera galing sa iyo," Dela Rosa said, addressing Guo.

(May we know who this former Chief PNP is? I am concerned because I am a former Chief PNP. Some people might allege that I am the one who was said to be receiving money from Alice Guo.)

Guo, in response, categorically denied that there is a payroll for police officers. —RF, GMA Integrated News
