Deepfakes: How to spot them

In the continuing efforts to fight against fakes, here are some indicators to identify that a photo or video is a deepfake.

Photos and videos can be used to distort the truth. GMA Sparkle artist Kevin Miranda shared in a "24 Oras" report ways to spot deepfakes.

  • Pay attention to the face. The forehead and cheeks of a person featured in a deepfake video are too smooth.
  • The blinking of the eyes is off and the facial hair looks unnatural.
  • There is also an unbelievable mole and the edges are sharp.
  • The skin tone of the face and body are also mismatched and the lip sync is off.
  • A deepfake video also has lighting differences.
  • Don’t forget to watch out for extra fingers.
According to experts, these indicators are easily spotted since artificial intelligence has yet to polish these features.

However, do not forget to go beyond the quality.
