Comelec: New voters reach 6.1 million

More than 6 million new voters have registered for the 2025 national and local elections (NLE), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported.

Data shared with reporters showed as of September 11, the total number of new registrants was 6,131,834, of which 3,153,433 were female and 2,978,401 were male.

Calabarzon recorded the most number of registrants with 1,020,212. It was followed by the National Capital Region with 794,855; Central Luzon with 691,627; Davao Region with 349,031; and Central Visayas with 326,533.

The Comelec main office registered 9,201 new voters.

The voter registration period for the May 2025 midterm polls started on February 12 and will end on September 30, 2024.

Applicants may register from Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at any Comelec office nationwide.

Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia earlier said there would be no extension of the September 30 voter registration deadline.

Delisted voters

Meanwhile, the number of delisted voters remained at 5,376,630, while a total of 714,152 voters were deleted from the official voter list.

The Comelec deactivated voters for failing to vote in two successive preceding regular elections, by court order, loss of Filipino citizenship, and for having non-valid documents.

Those who died or had multiple and double registrations were deleted from the list of registered voters.

The poll body said registered voters have reached 65.9 million, still short of the 70 million voters projected by the Comelec. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
