Improper issuance of birth certificates to foreigners found in 15 local registrars — PSA
Fifteen local registrars were engaged in the improper issuance of birth certificates to foreigners, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
In a Wednesday report on Saksi, the issue of birth certificate registration was revealed during the Senate hearing on the 2025 budget of the National Economic and Development Authority, where PSA is an attached agency.
The alleged anomaly in the birth certificate registration was brought up when the issue of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Alice Guo's birth certificate came about.
The Office of the Solicitor General filed a petition seeking to cancel Guo’s birth certificate due to the absence of supporting documents such as her baptismal certificate, the place of her birth, and the name of her parents.
To prevent this anomaly, PSA said late registrants are required to apply for a National ID first so that they can appear in person and give their biometrics.
Late registrants are those who have registered beyond 30 days from their birth.
According to a census, 3.7 million Filipinos are not yet registered and have no birth certificate. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
