Marcos directs transfer of NIA to OP

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered the reorganization of the National Irrigation Administration and the transfer of its attachment to the Office of the President.

In his Executive Order No. 69, Marcos said it is imperative to streamline and rationalize the functional relationships of agencies with complementary mandates “in order to promote coordination, efficiency, and coherence within the bureaucracy.”

The NIA will then be transferred from the Department of Agriculture to the OP for policy and program coordination.

Under the latest EO, the NIA Board will be composed of a representative from the OP, the NIA administrator, and the chiefs of the Department of Agriculture, Department of Public Works and Highways and the National Economic and Development Authority, as well as a representative from the private sector.

Meanwhile, the election or appointment of chairperson, vice-chairperson, and other officers of the Board of Directors shall be in accordance with the GOCC Governance Act of 2011.

The said EO, signed on September 5, shall take effect immediately. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
