Philippines NICA Alice Guo security concern

The National Intelligence Coordination Agency (NICA) is considering the case of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, also known as Guo Hua Ping, as a national security concern.

NICA legal officer Rowena Acudili made the statement at the Senate justice and human rights subcomitte's investigation into Guo's supposed escape.

"Considering the fact that Miss Guo has been involved and charged with various criminal charges and involved in other unlawful activities, plus the fact that her Filipino citizenship is in question, the NICA considers this as a national security concern," Acudili said.

According to Acudili, NICA got the information that Guo departed from the Philippines on August 18.

However, the NICA official said the information at that time was not yet verified by other sources.

A day after, Acudili said Senator Risa Hontiveros has already delivered her privilege speech disclosing Guo's departure from the Philippines.

Asked how NICA processed the information that they got, Acudili said they continued their coordination with other intelligence agencies.

"On the part of NICA continuous naman po ang aming coordination with other intelligence agencies and in fact po, our regional intelligence committee have already noted that as early as July 10, wala na pong monitoring kay mayor sa municipal office kay Mayor Guo," she said.

Alice Guo was arrested in Indonesia on Wednesday morning and is expected to be brought back to the Philippines on Thursday evening. She has refused the allegations against her, including her alleged involvement in the operations of a POGO hub in Bamban, Tarlac. —NB, GMA Integrated News
