Marcos on those implicated in Alice Guo's escape: You'll pay the price

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said those who helped dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo escape the country would surely face charges.

Speaking to Palace reporters, Marcos guaranteed that those who would be implicated in assisting Guo would surely "pay the price."

"All of those who are implicated in assisting Alice Guo to leave the Philippines illegally as a fugitive from justice will certainly pay the price," Marcos said.

"Ang tanong niyo, sino sisibakin? Hindi lang namin sila sisibakin, kakasuhan pa namin sila dahil ang kanilang ginawa ay labag sa batas at against all of the interests of the Philippine judicial system," he added.

(So you ask, whose head will roll? We won't just fire them, we will file charges against them. What they did violates the law and is against all of the interests of the Philippine judicial system.)

When asked who are these personnel, Marcos said, "You'll find out soon enough."

Marcos said the government is already finalizing the arrangements to bring Guo back to the Philippines ''sometime today.''

''They're implementing the legal orders that were sent to them by the court and that is to bring back the fugitive Alice Guo to the Philippines. So, that is what they are doing,'' he said.

The President said last month that "heads will roll" as a result of Guo's departure, adding that an investigation into the matter was already underway.

Marcos later said he has "a very, very good idea" whose head would roll following the probe.

Guo was arrested in Indonesia early Wednesday morning, according to the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).

Citing information from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said Guo was under the custody of the Indonesian police following her arrest in Tangerang City, Indonesia.

In a video message also on Wednesday, Marcos said Guo's arrest should serve as a warning to those attempting to evade justice in the Philippines.

"Such is an exercise in futility," Marcos said, adding that, "The arm of the law is long and it will reach you."

Guo, whose real name is Guo Hua Ping according to Philippine authorities, is facing a number of legal troubles, including alleged involvement in the operations of an illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in Bamban. — VDV/VBL, GMA Integrated News
