A total of 547,029 individuals in 695 barangays were affected by Severe Tropical Storm Enteng and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday.

Based on NDRRMC's latest situational report, most of the affected residents or 288,110 of them were from Central Luzon. This was followed by the Bicol region with 181,506 and the National Capital Region (NCR) with 74,030.

A total of 50,076 persons or 12,742 families stayed or are currently sheltered in 323 evacuation centers across the country, while 14,164 people or 4,836 families were seeking temporary shelters elsewhere.

The NDRRMC said 12 fatalities due to weather systems were reported. The information is currently being validated. As for casualties, NDRRMC said 12 people were reported as dead due to the weather systems, which were all still subject for validation. Seven individuals were also reported missing, while 11 were injured.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD), however, said Wednesday that 15 people were reported dead due to Enteng's impact. The OCD also reported that 15 were wounded while 21 were still missing.

Meanwhile, 39 roads and 16 bridges also remained impassable due to the effects of the storm.

There were 589 houses which were ruined due to the heavy rain and flooding—of which 538 were partially damaged, and 51 were totally damaged.

Damage to infrastructure in the Bicol region stood at P200,000.

Interruptions in electricity, water, and communications services were also reported in some regions.

A total of 19 domestic flights and four seaport trips were also canceled. This resulted in 455 passengers, 34 rolling cargoes, 13 vessels, and four motorized outriggers stranded.

Classes and work were also suspended in some cities and municipalities.

One area in the Bicol Region has declared a state of calamity.

The NDRRMC said P31.2 million worth of assistance has been provided to affected families so far.

As of 4 a.m. on Wednesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said that Enteng was already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, but it slightly intensified as it slowly moved west northwestward.

The enhanced Southwest Monsoon will also bring moderate to intense rainfall in other areas of Luzon over the next three days. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
