DILG's Abalos, PNP chief Marbil mull going to Indonesia to fetch Guo

Abalos, Marbil mull going to Indonesia to fetch Guo

Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos and Philippine National Police chief Police General Rommel Marbil are mulling going to Indonesia to personally fetch dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo and bring her back to the country.

In a press conference Wednesday, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said they are looking at two options.

“Titignan ‘yung possibility, we have two options whether ‘yung police attache na ang mag-eescort papunta sa Pilipinas (We are looking at the possibility, we have two options: either the police attache will escort Guo back to the Philippines) or it would be the Chief PNP or SILG that will be travelling to Indonesia to fetch Alice Guo,” she said.

Fajardo added there is no definite plan yet but “ang initial po kanina, ang usapan po is si mismong si SILG po ang bibiyahe roon at si Chief PNP po (the initial talks was the SILG and Chief PNP will go there)."

"The intention of the Chief PNP and SILG is within the day we can get the custody of Alice Guo," she further said.

Guo has been arrested in Tangerang, Indonesia, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) said on Wednesday.

Fajardo said the arrest of Guo, as well as Guo's purported sister Shiela Guo and Cassandra Ong, the authorized representative of the raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Porac, Pampanga, was "born out of the intelligence cooperation" between the PNP and the Indonesian National Police.

"Maganda ang naging coordination ng ating police attache doon at Indonesian police that led to the location nga po nitong si Alice Guo (The coordination between our police attache and the Indonesian police that led to the location of Alice Guo is very good)," she said.

She said they are also waiting for the official report.

"Kanina po before coming over here kausap ko po mismo 'yung intelligence group na nagfacilitate, they opted not to disclose more information kasi ongoing pa 'yung efforts to locate others (Before coming here I talked to the intelligence group that facilitated the arrest but they opted not to disclose more information as their efforts to locate the others are still ongoing)," said Fajardo.

She further said that the PNP's intelligence efforts are working.

"Out of respect din po sa iba nating mga law enforcement agencies, I'm sure gumagana rin po 'yung intelligence efforts nila," Fajardo added.

(Also out of respect of our other law enforcement agencies, I'm certain their intelligence efforts are also working.)

The PNP spokesperson said they are not dismissing the possibility that some police personnel may have assisted the escape of Alice and Shiela Guo and Ong.

"Hindi po natin ito palalagpasin at we will file the criminal and administrative cases, but it is not impossible na meron pong tumulong," she said.

(We will not let this pass and we will file the criminal and administrative cases, but it is not impossible that someone helped in their escape.)

Meanwhile, National Bureau of Investigation Director Jaime Santiago earlier said their counterpart informed them of Guo's arrest around 1 a.m.

In another interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Santiago said they are seeking Guo’s return as soon as possible.

“The soonest po sir, the soonest. Kung ngayon o bukas pipilitin po natin. 'Yan po ang order sa atin ni DOJ Secretary Remulla,” he said.

(The soonest sir, the soonest. If it's today or tomorrow, we'll make it happen. That's the instruction from DOJ Secretary Remulla to us.)

Guo is facing a number of legal troubles in the Philippines.

The 33-year-old dismissed mayor was ordered arrested by the Senate in July for repeatedly failing to attend the upper chamber’s investigation into the raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in her town.

Also ordered arrested by the Senate were Dennis Lacson Cunanan, Nancy Jimenez Gamo, and the mayor's alleged relatives Shiela Leal Guo, Wesley Leal Guo, Jian Zhong Guo, Seimen L. Guo, and Wenyi Lin. Shiela was arrested last month in Indonesia and is now under the custody of the Senate.

In May, the Department of Interior and Local Government filed graft charges against Guo over her reported involvement with POGO.

In June, authorities also filed a complaint against Guo and others for alleged human trafficking in connection to the raided POGO hub in Bamban. This was submitted for resolution last month.

The Office of the Solicitor General also filed a quo warranto petition against Guo.—Jamil Santos/AOL,  GMA Integrated News
