Provinces in Luzon, Visayas suffer from Enteng's impact

Residents in several provinces in Luzon and Visayas coped with floods, landslides, and heavy rains due to the effects of Tropical Storm Enteng, according to reports on GMA Integrated News' Unang Balita on Tuesday.

Some severely affected areas in these provinces reported fatalities, injuries, and missing individuals.

Antipolo City

According to a report by Susan Enriquez, seven people were reported dead in Antipolo City due to a landslide and drowning incidents.

Also, a house was washed away by floods in Barangay San Luis where four people were still missing.

As the floods in some areas in the city rose over six feet, a total of 997 families were staying in evacuation centers.

Northern Samar

Two people were reported dead and four others were injured after a landslide in Barangay Santo Niño in Biri, Northern Samar.

About 15 areas in the province were flooded due to Enteng, according to the Office of Civil Defense regional office in Eastern Visayas.

Floods were also reported in other provinces including Samar, Eastern Samar, and Leyte, affecting 20,000 people in the region.

Laguna

According to a report by Mark Salazar, the overflow of the Mabitac - Sta. Maria River in Laguna caused up to waist-deep floods in some roads. Due to this, a large portion of Mabitac town was isolated.

In Pila and Sta. Cruz towns, residents woke up early morning with floodwaters inside their homes after local irrigation systems overflowed.

Poultry and other livestock farms were also affected.

Naga City

Two people were reported dead in Naga City in Bicol, namely a male resident who died of electrocution and a nine-month-old baby girl who fell off her bed amid the floods.

A state of calamity was declared in the city as floodwaters swamped some 16 barangays due to Enteng's impact.

According to the local government unit, the massive flooding was due to the heavy downpour during high tide.

Cainta, Rizal

The local government in Cainta, Rizal deployed a truck to fetch several workers who were stranded on their way home amid the floods caused by Enteng.

Some residents were forced to walk through the floods to buy their food.

One of the most affected areas was Barangay Santo Domingo. The barangay captain said several perimeter fences in the town collapsed, causing floodwaters to rise. The area was described as a catch basin.

Bacoor City

In Bacoor City in Cavite, many residents in Barangay Aniban Uno have lamented the power outage since Monday, according to a report of Bea Pinlac.

Aside from floods, residents said the lack of electricity was a burden as they were not able to contact their families and relatives, while their livelihoods were also affected.

Some pedicab drivers said no commuters were hiring them because the floods have already reached the sidecar passenger seat.

Cagayan

Some residents in Sta. Ana, Cagayan evacuated from their homes due to Enteng but some fishermen stayed in coastal areas to watch over their boats, GMA Regional TV's Jasmin Gabriel-Galban reported.

While the fishers already tied their boats, they were concerned that big waves might damage these amid the strong winds and heavy rains.

A no sailing policy was in effect over the area.

Fatalities

Office of Civil Defense (OCD) spokesperson Edgar Posadas told Unang Balita on Tuesday that at least 13 people were reported dead due to the impact of Tropical Storm Enteng.

Six areas were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 as Enteng continues to move over the West Philippine Sea as of Tuesday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

Enteng was spotted over the coastal waters of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, moving west northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour and packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.

"ENTENG is forecast to continue moving generally west northwestward over the next 24 hours and is expected to turn westward over the West Philippine Sea starting tomorrow (4 September) until it reach Hainan, China on Saturday (7 September)," PAGASA said.

Enteng may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday morning, according to PAGASA.

"ENTENG is forecast to reach severe tropical storm by this afternoon (at the earliest) or evening, and typhoon category by Thursday (5 September)," PAGASA added. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
