13 reported dead due to Enteng —OCD

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Tuesday said 13 people were reported dead due to the impact of Tropical Storm Enteng.

OCD spokesperson Edgar Posadas told GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita in an interview that eight of the fatalities were reported in Rizal, three in Bicol, and two in Cebu province.

“Meron pong dalawa sa Cebu. Ito po yung nabagsakan ng pader tapos yung isa pong pader na nakakabit sa bahay. Meron din tayong kinukumpirma, bina-validate together with our regional office of Bicol. Tatlo po yun. Meron din po dito sa Calabarzon, particularly sa Rizal po, walo po ang kinukumpirma natin diyan. Karamihan po yung sa Antipolo po,” Posadas said.

(There are two reported deaths in Cebu. This was due to the walls that collapsed on a house. We are also validating with our regional office in Bicol three reported fatalities. In Calabarzon, particularly in Rizal, we are validating eight reported fatalities. Most of them are in Antipolo.)

Posadas noted that the OCD is still verifying these reports.

Meanwhile, Posadas said 10 people were reported injured in Cebu due to Enteng.

So far, a total of 24,043 people or 6,052 families were affected by Enteng in Bicol, as well as Central and Eastern Visayas regions, according to Posadas.

Meanwhile, in an 8 a.m. report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Enteng has affected 147,024 persons or 37,867 families.

The affected population was reported in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and the National Capital Region.

Of the affected population, 38,058 people or 8,866 families were staying in 218 evacuation centers while 1,756 people or 411 families were taking shelter in other places.

A total of 17 houses were damaged, 9 totally and eight partially. Damage to infrastructure worth P200,000 has been reported in Bicol so far.

Power outages, water supply problems, and communication lines issues were reported in some affected areas.

A total of 19 domestic flights were canceled.

Meanwhile, eight of the 16 affected seaports have resumed operations. Due to the suspended operations, 954 passengers, 67 rolling cargoes, 15 vessels, and four motorbancas were stranded.

Classes in 541 areas and work schedules in 361 areas were suspended.

Assistance worth P9,017,063 has been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC.

In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 was raised over two areas in Luzon as Enteng re-intensified while moving over the West Philippine Sea on Tuesday morning.

Nine areas meanwhile, were under TCWS No. 1.

PAGASA earlier said Enteng was expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Wednesday morning. —KBK/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
