Senate to resume work on Sept. 3

The Senate will resume work on Tuesday, September 3, amid pending hearings including briefings for the proposed 2025 budget, its officials said.

The announcement came even as Malacanang, through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, suspended government work and classes in private and public schools in the National Capital Region and Region IV-A due to bad weather.

In Memorandum Circular No. 63, Bersamin said the suspension of government work and classes at all levels was because of the continuous rainfall brought by Tropical Storm Enteng and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

"In view of the various scheduled committee hearings and plenary session, Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero has instructed that work at the Senate shall resume tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 September 2024," according to an advisory signed by Renato Bantug Jr., secretary of the Senate.

Bantug said secretariat officers and employees whose services are necessary for the hearings and session are required to report for work.

Those required to report for work are entitled to compensatory time off, he added.

"All other secretariat employees need not report for work.  Senate Proper employees may or may not be required to report for work at the discretion of their respective principals," the Senate advisory said. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
