PAWS urges people to help stray animals amid Storm Enteng
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) on Monday reminded the public to help stray animals amid the onslaught of Tropical Storm Enteng.
“If you see an animal struggling in the storm, please remember that you are their closest lifeline. For them, braving the downpour without a home can mean the difference between life and death,” the animal welfare group said in a Facebook post.
“Extend your compassion by offering them shelter, food, and water, and if you can, help them get the veterinary care they need,” it added.
In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Enteng was seen to make a landfall over Isabela or Cagayan by Monday afternoon.
It added that Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 is still raised over nine areas in Luzon.
Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 is hoisted over Metro Manila and 24 other areas in Luzon.
“With unforgiving weather, the streets become an especially terrifying place for homeless animals,” PAWS said. “Let’s also not allow our compassion to stop at offering temporary relief in difficult times.”
Protect your pets
The animal welfare group also reminded the public to protect their pets amid the bad weather.
Pet owners must have an evacuation plan and emergency kits ready for their pets, PAWS said.
The emergency kits must contain food, water, first aid supplies, and medical records of their pets.
PAWS also said the public must also know how to evacuate their pets safely. Laundry baskets or basins can serve as makeshift carriers.
In any case they cannot take their pets, owners were reminded to uncage and unchain them to give them a fighting chance of survival. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
