Palace names Joseph Ortega as National Youth Commission head

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Joseph Francisco Ortega as the new chairperson of the National Youth Commission (NYC), according to the Presidential Communications Office.

Karl Josef Legazpi, a director at the House of Representatives, was also named second Commissioner-at-Large of the youth body.

Ortega will replace Ronald Cardema who was appointed to the post during the previous administration.

Ortega served as the Regional Director of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 1 since 2019 prior to his appointment.  He spearheaded numerous initiatives to boost regional tourism and promote sustainable development.

The new NYC head graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science degree from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2013.  He took up his Master of Business Administration from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business in 2023.

The President said he is confident Ortega will keep the NYC a vital force in shaping the Filipino youth to take on leadership roles and make meaningful contributions to society. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
