Shiela Guo admits she was born in China, Alice not her 'biological' sister
Shiela Guo, the sister of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo, on Tuesday admitted that she was not born in the Philippines, but in China.
During the hearing of the Senate subcommittee on justice and human rights, Guo was asked whether she was born in the Philippines.
“Hindi po, ako hindi (not me),” she answered.
Meanwhile, when asked if she was born in China, Guo said, “opo (yes).”
Guo affirmed that she arrived in the Philippines from China in 2001.
Last week, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said that Guo is a Chinese citizen named Zhang Mier who “fraudulently acquired” a Philippine passport.
Guo also bared that she and Alice Guo have different biological fathers, both of whom were Chinese.
“Tunay [na] tatay iba. Iba kami, 'yung tunay na tatay,” Guo said.
(Our real fathers are different. We have different biological fathers.)
She also denied that Lin Wen Yi is her mother.
Lin Wen Yi is the registered mother of Chinese passport holder Guo Hua Ping. The NBI has confirmed that Alice Guo and Guo Hua Ping have the same fingerprints.
Shiela said she first met Alice when she arrived in the Philippines and that they did not grow up together.
She said, her foster father, Guo Jian Zhong, brought her to the country to help with his business.
“Sabi kasi ni Daddy, tulungan ko daw siya ng business niya (Daddy asked me to help him with his business),” she said.
Guo also said that she received her Philippine passport from Zhong.
“Bigay sa akin ni Daddy. Sabi niya, 'yun na 'yung passport mo na ano, pag may punta sa travel o ano ‘yun na ang gagamitin mo,” she said.
(It was given to me by Daddy. He told me that this is now my passport and that I should use it for travel and other matters.)
Atty. Stephen David, Guo’s counsel, explained that Shiela arrived in the country when she was still a teenager.
“Whatever fault, if ever there are any, it’s not any of her doing. The passport, the birth certificate, were just handed to her by her father,” David said.
“Being an innocent young girl, how can we fault her if her dad will say from now on, you are a Filipino citizen, you will use this. Your honor, please, we have to understand, a tender lady, a tender girl, a teengare being assured by someone, especially her foster dad… how can she not believe,” he added.
Senator Joel Villanueva, however, stressed that just because Shiela was not aware does not mean that she could not be held accountable.
Guo, along with Cassandra Li Ong, were intercepted by Indonesian authorities last week.
Shiela Guo was among the persons ordered arrested by the Senate last July.
