PNP sets up checkpoints in areas affected by African Swine Fever


The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday said it has deployed checkpoints in areas of the country that are affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF) as part of the campaign to curb the disease.

In an interview with Tuesday Niu on Super Radyo over DZBB, PNP Spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said the checkpoints are part of the police effort to help prevent the spread of ASF after several localities have been stricken by the disease.

“Kaugnay sa papel ng PNP sa kampanya kontra ASF, ang PNP ay nagpo-provide ng police assistance in terms of establishing checkpoints sa mga lugar na apektado ng ASF,” Fajardo said.

Several provinces in the country’s major regions have reported ASF multiple ASF cases.

On Saturday, a truck driver carrying pigs from Batangas to Caloocan City allegedly attempted to skip an ASF checkpoint on Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City.

Last week, authorities also intercepted one truck carrying 38 pigs along Commonwealth Avenue Quezon City while another checkpoint stopped another truck loaded with another 11 hogs in Malanday, Venezuela City. Upon testing, 11 hogs were found positive for ASF. —RF, GMA Integrated News
