Chavit Singson announces senatorial bid for Eleksyon 2025
Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson on Wednesday announced that he would run for senator in the 2025 midterm elections.
After getting an endorsement from former President Rodrigo Duterte, Singson said that he would give the Senate another try this time.
“Sabi ko it’s an honor to be endorsed by [former] President Rodrigo ‘Digong’ Duterte. Laking pasalamat ko dahil hindi siya nakalimot. At inisip ko ‘yun, magpaalam muna ako sa mga pamilya ko [...] Dahil sa binigay niyong ito, this is my first time to confirm na tatakbo na akong senador with your support,” he said in a Facebook post.
(It was an honor to be endorsed by [former] President Rodrigo ‘Digong’ Duterte. I’m very thankful that he didn’t not forget. I really thought about it and asked the permission of my family [...] Because of this, this is my first time to confirm that I would run for senator with your support.)
Singson first expressed interest to run in the Senate back in 2007 as a move he described as “fight” against the family of his erstwhile friend, former president Joseph Estrada. He lost.
Singson joined the Nationalist People's Coalition in 2021 while serving as Narvacan, Ilocos Sur mayor, but he did not run for any public post in the 2022 national elections.
Duterte reportedly said that he would support his friend Singson if the latter decides to seek a Senate seat next year. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
