Bersamin orders cancellation of Alice Guo’s PH passport
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Tuesday ordered the cancellation of dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo’s Philippine passport.
Bersamin directed that "appropriate action" be taken for the cancellation of the passports of Guo and her relatives Wesley Guo, Sheila Leal Guo, and Cassandra Li Ong, the authorized representative of the POGO raided in Porac, Pampanga.
The memorandum was issued to the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Justice.
GMA News Online has sought comment from Malacañang and Guo's camp but has yet to receive a response as of posting time.
This was after Senator Risa Hontiveros on Monday bared that Guo, who was also identified as Chinese citizen Guo Hua Ping, left the country on July 18 for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval confirmed this earlier today and said that Guo is currently in Indonesia.
Bersamin noted that Guo is the subject of a Senate arrest order for her repeated failure to attend the Senate inquiry on illegal POGO activities.
He also cited the New Philippine Passport Act.
“The DFA Secretary may cancel a passport in the interest of national security. Under the same law, one of the grounds for the cancellation of a Philippine passport is when the court issues an order for its cancellation as the holder is a fugitive from justice,” Bersamin said.
Amid the reports, Guo’s legal counsel, Atty. Stephen David, has said that Gou told him that she is still in the country. The lawyer, however, admitted that he cannot confirm the information and has no idea where she is exactly. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
