Comelec delists 5.3M voters for 2025 polls
Over 5.3 million names from the official voter registration for the 2025 national and local elections (NLE) have been delisted, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday.
Latest data shared with reporters showed a total of 5,388,421 voters for the 2025 NLE were deactivated as of August 19. A total of 686,859 were deleted.
The Comelec deactivated the registration of voters who failed to vote in two successive preceding regular elections, by court order, loss of Filipino citizenship, and for having non-valid documents.
The deleted names of voters who were due to death, or multiple and double registration.
Earlier, the Comelec said registered voters for the May 2025 polls have reached 65.9 million, a figure that still falls short of the 70 million voters the poll body projected.
New voters
Meanwhile, the poll body said the total number of new registered voters for the 2025 NLE has reached 5,372,424.
Of the figures, the Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon (Calabarzon) region recorded the most number of registrants with 901,562. It was followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 712,458; Central Luzon with 618,106; and Davao Region with 303,216. The Comelec main office registered 7,620 new voters.
The voter registration period for the May 2025 midterm polls started on February 12, and will end on September 30, 2024.
Applicants may register from Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at any Comelec office nationwide.
The Comelec Register Anywhere Program is also open for those who wish to register to vote in designated sites like malls and schools.
There will be no extension for the September 30 voter registration deadline, Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia said. —RF, GMA Integrated News
