GMA launches Panata Kontra Fake News

With the increased influence of the internet and social media, the problem fake news has also grown.

According to a Pulse Asia survey in September 2022, nine out of 10 adults believe fake news is a problem.

The Social Weather Station in the fourth quarter of 2021 found that 67% believe that fake news on the internet was a serious problem.

The same survey said that 51% said it was difficult to spot fake news.

It is this situation in which GMA embarked to intensify its mission.

"Because of the increasing and wide proliferation of fake news including the so-called deep fakes in all media platforms, we thought of organizing a group composed of those who can directly and indirectly help to fight fake news," said Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, the chairman of GMA Network, Inc.

"And we believe that it is now timely to do this with the coming mid-term elections in May 2025. And I do not need to belabor the very serious damage of fake news in our communities in particular and to our country in general," he added.

As the leading television network with significant reach, influence, and capability, the Kapuso Network is embracing the challenge, responsibility, oath to continue being an instrument of the truth.

GMA has also invited some of the responsible, respected, and influential colleagues in the media, and the academe to rally behind the aspiration for the truth.

—NB, GMA Integrated News
