Paolo Duterte files bill requiring random drug tests for gov’t officials

Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte has filed a bill requiring a "mandatory random" drug testing every six months of elected and appointed officials, with the president not exempted from those who may be selected.

The bill seeks to mandate "elected and appointed officials of public office, including the President of the Republic of the Philippines, to undergo random drug testing through hair follicle drug test every six months and institutionalizing voluntary random drug testing of candidates for electoral posts within 90 days prior the election day."

Elected and appointed officials who test positive may be suspended or terminated from office, according to the bill.

Candidates for electoral posts may also volunteer to undergo a drug test within a 90-day period before election day. — BM, GMA Integrated News
