Marcos satisfaction rating slightly up in Q2 2024 —Oculum survey

Public satisfaction for President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s performance slightly improved in the second quarter of the year, according to a non-commissioned opinion poll by Oculum Research and Analytics. 

Based on the survey conducted from June 25 to June 30, the research firm said 50% of Filipinos were satisfied with Marcos' performance as he enters his third year in office. The figure is slightly higher than the 49% recorded in the first quarter of the year.

Around 22% of the respondents said they were unsatisfied, which is up from the 18% in the first quarter of the year, according to the survey, the results of which were released on Monday. 

Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte’s satisfaction rating dipped to 64% in the second quarter from the 75% in the first quarter. At least 13% of the respondents were unsatisfied with her performance. 

Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero garnered 48% satisfaction rating and 9% unsatisfied with his performance, while Speaker Martin Romualdez got a 34% and 37% rating, respectively. 

Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo’s satisfaction rating slid to 25% in the second quarter from 31%. About 11% of Filipinos were unsatisfied with his performance. 

WPS, US, divorce

The same survey also asked the respondents for their opinion on government policies on various national issues, including the territorial dispute with China in the West Philippine Sea (WPS). 

At least 75% said they were unsupportive of the Philippines’ relationship with China and 66% said they found China an untrustworthy country. 

The survey also said 53% of the respondents think the Philippines should align with the US in the WPS issue, with 26% saying the Philippine should seek military assistance from Washington. It also said 35% want Manila to defend its territory against China and 10% said it should seek peace with Beijing. 

As for divorce in the Philippines, 49% of the respondents said they were unsupportive of it. 

A total of 1,200 Filipino adults participated in the face-to-face interviews for the survey, which has a sampling error margin of ± 3 and a high confidence level of 95%.
