Marcos directs creation of presidential office for child protection

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. directed the creation of the Presidential Office for Child Protection amid the rising OSAEC cases and threats to the welfare of children in the Philippines.

Executive Order No. 67 stated that the POCP would be under the Office of the President, which shall be headed by a presidential adviser.

There is no information yet from the Presidential Communications Office on who will be appointed to lead the said office.

The said office shall monitor and harmonize government thrusts and policies for the protection of children and their welfare.

According to the EO, the POCP shall collaborate with the Council for the Welfare of Children regarding the formulation or updating of the National Plan of Action for Children.

It is also tasked to monitor if the country complied with international legal instruments regarding child protection. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
