Marcos’ PFP, Nacionalista ink alliance pact for 2025 polls

Marcos’ PFP, Nacionalista ink alliance pact for 2025 polls

The Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) and Nacionalista Party on Thursday signed an alliance pact for the May 2025 elections.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and former Senate president Manny Villar witnessed the alliance signing during a ceremony in Taguig City.

In his speech, the President said the alliance would better orchestrate the collective priorities and plans for the country.

"To better orchestrate our collective priorities and plans for the nation, the PFP is working closely with our colleagues from the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, the Nationalist People’s Coalition, [and] the National Unity Party," Marcos said.

"And today, we have the opportunity to forge another partnership that will broaden the grand coalition working under the banner of Bagong Pilipinas. We declare, the PFP, we declare officially its collaboration with the Nacionalista Party through the signing of our alliance," he added.

Largest political bloc

Marcos also stressed that the newly forged alliance has formed the largest political bloc in the Philippines.

In a separate speech, Villar said the Nacionalista Party has always been supportive of Marcos when it comes to his political career.

"He was part of my senatorial lineup when I ran for President in 2010. And when he ran for President, the entire party threw its support to his candidacy. I should also mention here that his father, the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos, was a Nacionalista," Villar said.

"The President has always demonstrated his love for our country. I have always enjoyed our conversations about the issues facing our country because when he talks I am convinced that he is motivated by patriotism and his desire to improve the lives of our people," he added.

Villar mentioned that one could could disagree with Marcos but "you cannot question his patriotism."

"That is why we welcomed the President's announcement that the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas will seek alliances with the country's national political parties in order to forge a common vision for the country. We need to prove to the Filipino people that we are a nation capable of rising above our differences in order to build a bright future for the country," Villar said.

Villar also said the alliance with the PFP is the right step towards the "glorious direction."

Senatorial lineup

In an interview with reporters, PFP president South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. said they have no senatorial slate yet for the upcoming midterm polls.

"Sa ngayon wala pa, maguusap-usap pa ang lahat ng mga partidong naka-alliance sa atin at paguusapan pa 'yung senatorial list natin pero 'yun nga hihintayin natin 'yung tamang panahon," Tamayo said.

(At this point, there's none yet. We will still talk with our alliances about the senatorial list and we are still waiting for the right time.)
