Comelec: No extension of Sept. 30 voter registration deadline

Comelec: No extension of Sept. 30 voter registration deadline

Commission on Elections Chairperson George Erwin Garcia said Wednesday the September 30 deadline for the registration of voters for the 2025 national and local polls will not be extended.

The poll chairman made the statement as he urged the 5.2 million deactivated voters to apply for reactivation.

“Sana nga 'yung 5.2 million magpa-reactivate ng kanilang registration. Sana makahabol hanggang September 30. Wala po tayong extension. Hanggang September 30 lang po ang ating registration,” Garcia told reporters.

(We hope the deactivated voters will apply for reactivation. They only have until September 30. There will be no extension.)

The voter registration started on February 12, 2024. As of July 20, a total of 409,329 voters applied for reactivation.

The poll body deactivated voters who failed to vote in two successive preceding regular elections, lost Filipino citizenship, and have non-valid documents.

Meanwhile, voters with multiple registrations have also been removed from the list. The Comelec also removed the names of voters who have died.

On the other hand, the number of registered voters for the 2025 national and local elections (NLE) has reached 65.9 million.

Data shared to reporters showed the total number of voters for the May 2025 polls is now at 65,943,899, which is still short of the 70 million voters the poll body projected.

“Sa kasalukuyan, ang botante natin ay 65.9 milion. Medyo short pa sa ating projection na 70 million,” Garcia said.
