CA panel OKs appointment of Angara as DepEd secretary

The education panel of the Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday endorsed the confirmation of the ad interim appointment of former Senator Sonny Angara as secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).

This came after Committee on Education chairperson Senator Raffy Tulfo quickly approved the motion to recommend to the plenary Angara's appointment.

Senators and congressmen who are members of the CA moved for Angara to dispense giving his opening statement.

Angara is set to undergo the CA plenary deliberations this afternoon for the official confirmation of his ad interim appointment.

Angara replaced Vice President Sara Duterte as DepEd secretary in July. Duterte announced her resignation as DepEd secretary in June.

Angara officially resigned as senator effective July 18.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, during Angara's oath taking, said he is optimistic about what the latter can do.

"We are looking forward to many good things to come from this appointment. We have had some discussions before he took his oath to give ourselves a good idea of what we think that needs to be done," Marcos said.

"I know Sonny knows what is important and I know how that he knows how to get these things done, and so I'm very very optimistic for DepEd," he added.

Angara for his part expressed gratitude at having been appointed to the DepEd. —KG, GMA Integrated News
