UAE donates food products, essentials to Carina, monsoon rains victims —BOC

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Wednesday it has facilitated the arrival and turnover of a donation of several essential goods and food products from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the victims of southwest monsoon (Habagat) rains enhanced by Super Typhoon Carina.

In a news release, the BOC said a cargo flight carrying assorted goods from the UAE meant to be distributed to those affected by the storm arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on July 30, 2024.

The donation was formally received by Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian and Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr.

The UAE was represented by Ambassador Mohammed Obaid Alqattam Alzaabi.

Also in attendance during the turnover was Special Envoy to the UAE for Trade and Investment Anna Kathryna Yu Pimentel.

DSWD’s Gatchalian expressed gratitude on behalf of the Philippine government for the donation.

The BOC said the donation included essential food products, which will be distributed to local government units (LGUs) and their constituents in the hardest-hit areas.

The BOC said the Port of NAIA’s handling of customs procedures guaranteed that the goods were processed and turned over to the receiving agencies without delay, exemplifying their commitment to swift and effective service during times of crisis.

This generous aid from the UAE underscores the importance of international cooperation and support in times of crisis, and the Philippines is immensely grateful for this timely and valuable assistance, according to the Customs. — Ted Cordero/BM, GMA Integrated News
