Reported deaths due to Habagat, Carina, Butchoy up to 39 -NDRRMC

The reported death toll due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, and  Tropical Cyclones Carina and Butchoy increased to 39, the National  Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Tuesday.

In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said the victims died due to drowning, landslides, electrocution, and a falling tree.

Fourteen of the total reported fatalities were confirmed: five in  Calabarzon, four in Zamboanga Peninsula, two in Central Luzon, and one each in Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Bangasamoro.

Meanwhile, 25 of the reported deaths were still up for validation: 15 in Metro Manila, eight in Calabarzon, and one each in the Ilocos Region and  Bangsamoro.

Also, six people were reported missing in the Ilocos  Region, Calabarzon, and Northern Mindanao, while nine were reported injured in Cagayan, Northern Mindanao, and Cordillera Region.

The affected population reached 4,839,002 people or 1,317,111 families across all the country's regions.

Of the total number, 108,083 people or 27,112 families were staying in evacuation centers, while 624,702 individuals or 129,723 families were taking shelter in other places.

There were 2,005 damaged houses - 1,779 partially and 226 completely damaged.

P545 million in agri damage

The inclement weather caused P545,216,362 in damage to agriculture and P6,560,000 damage to irrigation.

Damage to infrastructure was valued at P4,263,026,035.

Power supply in 12 of 101 affected areas had yet to be restored. Water supply remained a problem in one of the eight affected areas.

One domestic flight of the 93 domestic and eight international flights affected by the inclement weather has yet to resume.

One of the 22 affected seaports has yet to resume operations. Due to this, two vessels were stranded.

Classes in 503 areas and work in 476 areas were suspended.

A state of calamity was declared in the following areas:

  • Bauang In La Union
  • Bataan
  • Pampanga
  • Bulacan
  • Cavite
  • San Mateo and Cainta in Rizal
  • Pinamalayan and Baco in Oriental Mindoro
  • San Andres in Romblon
  • Jose Abad Santos (Trinidad) in Davao Occidental
  • Kabacan and Pikit in Cotabato
  • Metro Manila

The NDRRMC said P321,565,026 in assistance has so far been provided to victims. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
