MMDA cancels Metro Manila Shake Drill on July 31

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced Tuesday the cancellation of the Metro Manila Shake Drill on July 31 due to the ongoing clean up operations amid the damage brought by Super Typhoon Carina and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.

“Hindi po matutuloy ang Metro Manila Shake Drill na nakatakda bukas, Hulyo 31, dahil sa patuloy na isinasagawang paglilinis at pagsasaayos ng mga pinsalang tinamo sa iba't ibang bahagi ng Metro Manila dulot ng habagat at bagyong Carina noong nakaraang linggo,” MMDA said in an advisory.

(The Metro Manila Shake Drill set on July 31 will not push through because of the ongoing clean-up operation and repairs being done in different parts of Metro Manila due to onslaught of Super Typhoon Carina and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon last week.)

On July 24, the Metro Manila Council placed the National Capital Region under the state of calamity due to the effects of the super typhoon.

The National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that more than 3.6 million individuals were affected by the combined impact of the Habagat, Tropical Cyclone Butchoy, and Super Typhoon Carina.

More than 2 million of said individuals were in Central Luzon.
