Leaks found in sunken vessel MTKR Jason Bradley -PCG

Leaks found in sunken vessel MTKR Jason Bradley -PCG

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Sunday evening that they discovered leaks on the sunken motor tanker (MTKR) Jason Bradley.

The PCG confirmed the presence of the sunken vessel in the waters off  Barangay Cabcaben, Mariveles, Bataan on Saturday afternoon.

The 39-meter motor tanker was loaded with “diesel cargo” of an unknown quantity, contrary to the shipping company’s report that the vessel had no cargo on board.

The MTKR Jason Bradley had sunk to a depth of 9 meters, resting on the muddy bottom 600 yards away from the shore.

Coast Guard divers capped the leak, as the PCG response team was now working on removing the diesel cargo with the help of a contracted salvor.

“An investigation will commence after safely recovering the cargo to avoid negative impacts on the marine environment and nearby coastal communities,” the PCG  said.

The Coast Guard had earlier confirmed that cargo tanks of the M/T Terra Nova, which also sank off Bataan, were leaking industrial fuel oil.

The M/T Terra Nova capsized in the waters off Lamao Point in Limay town, Bataan on Thursday, July 25. It carried 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil.

Later that day, one of its 17 crew was found dead by a PCG search team. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
