NDRRMC: 3.6M people affected by Carina, Butchoy, Habagat

A total of 3,628,500 individuals in over 3,000 barangays were affected by the combined impact of Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), as well as Tropical Cyclones Carina and Butchoy, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.

Based on NDRRMC’s latest situational report, most of the residents affected came from Central Luzon at 2,134,938, followed by the Bangsamo with 552,971, Soccsksargen with 260,767, and Ilocos Region with 242,648. 

There were 168,933 individuals or 42,673 families who remained at 1,025 evacuation centers, while 900,421 people or 217,389 families were seeking temporary shelters elsewhere.

As for casualties, NDRRMC said 28 people reportedly died—of which 10 were already validated, and 18 were still up for validation.

However, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said that as of Friday, the fatalities already stood at 34. 

The NDRRMC said the Department of Agriculture also recorded P212,002,653 worth of damage, affecting 12,456 farmers and fishermen.

The National Irrigation Administration also logged P6.5 million worth of damage in Mimaropa and Soccsksargen.

The damage to infrastructure, on the other hand, rose to P171,662,374.

There were 720 houses that were affected due to the intense rain and flooding—-of which 556 houses were partially damaged, while 164 were totally damaged.

Ninety-eight roads and nine bridges also remained not passable across the country.

There were 105 cities and municipalities that also declared a state of calamity.

The NDRRMC said a total of P145,325,654 worth of assistance has been provided to storm-stricken individuals.—RF, GMA Integrated News
