Jail officer, former PDL nabbed for QC mother-son slay

Jail officer, former PDL nabbed for QC mother-son slay

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested two suspects for the killing of a mother and her son in Quezon City.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago said one of the suspects was a jail officer of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) while the other was a former person deprived of liberty (PDL) who was recently released from the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm.

“So, sa theory namin alaga niya ito. So paglaya, ayan gumawa sila ng krimen,” Santiago said in a media briefing.

(Our theory is that the latter was the jail officer's henchman. So, when he was released, they committed a crime.)

According to Santiago, the two suspects held up the two victims while they were driving at 2:45 a.m. on June 10 in Quezon City.

“They tried to hold up the mag ina. Ngayon hinarang ng kotse at yung bata, yung nag mamaneho, umatras. Binaril, patay. And then kinuha yung nanay at dinala nila,” the NBI chief said.

(They tried to rob the mother and her son. They blocked the car and the son, who was driving, tried to reverse away. He was shot and killed. And then they abducted the mother.)

In the afternoon on the same day, the suspects demanded a P5 million ransom for the mother’s release. The family immediately sought help from the NBI.

“From that day, triny naming itrack yung number na ginagamit doon sa pag hihingi ng ransom. Nakarating kami ng Pampanga,” Dangerous Drugs Division chief Atty. Ross Galicia said.

(From that day, we tried to track the number they used for the ransom call. We tracked them to Pampanga.)

Galicia, however, said that the family’s driver conspired with the suspects in the crime and tipped them off. The driver is currently in the custody of the Philippine National Police Anti Kidnapping Group.

“‘Yung isang driver din pala ng pamilya connected doon sa abduction kaya na timbrehan nila ‘yung mga kasama nila na mag patay ng mga phones nila,” Galicia said.

(The driver was connected to the abduction, so he tipped off his accomplices to turn off their phones.)

On July 11, the NBI arrested one of the suspects in Cavite while the other was arrested the following day. The suspects revealed the mother’s location in Bai, Laguna.

“Nung matagpuan yung body nung nanay na nanawala, bangkay na. So matagal na nilang pinatay. June 10? Probably 11, 12 pinatay na nila. So, we found the cadaver ito na nga skeleton na, sa creek,” Santiago said.

(When the mother was found, she was dead. She had been killed earlier. June 10? Probably killed at around 11, 12. So we found the remains, already a skeleton, at a creek.)

He said that DNA results proved that the remains were the missing mother.

The suspects had gone through inquest proceedings and charges were filed. Two more suspects were still at large. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
