7,000 families displaced due to Carina, Habagat flooding get DSWD aid

At least 7,000 families displaced by the massive flooding due to Super Typhoon Carina and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon have received food packs and P5,000 cash aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Speaker and Leyte lawmaker Martin Romualdez said Thursday.

“We have initiated the distribution of relief packs since yesterday to ensure that affected citizens receive the essential supplies they need during this challenging time," Romualdez, who joined the aid distribution in San Juan and Caloocan City, said in a statement.

“Members of the House are on the ground and are giving feedback as to the needs of their constituents," he added.

Aside from the aid from the DSWD, Romualdez said that the Office of the Speaker will also provide 20,000 food packs.

Each of the 20,000 food packs contains three kilos of rice, canned goods, coffee and other items.

In addition, the Office of the Speaker and Tingog party-list earlier provided 1,600 hot meals to evacuees at Malanday Elementary School in Marikina city.

Another 3,400 hot meals, Romualdez said, are also set to be distributed to evacuees in Quezon City, Manila and Marikina today, July 25.

“Our teams have been and will be deployed to the hardest-hit areas to deliver aid," Tingog party-list lawmaker Yedda Romualdez, the Speaker's wife, said.

A state of calamity has been declared in Metro Manila and in the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan, Batangas and Cavite. — BM, GMA Integrated News
