PH remains at 73rd spot in Henley Passport Index

The Philippine passport remained at 73rd place in global ranking as of July 2024, based on the latest Henley Passport Index. 

Citing exclusive and official data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Henley Passport Index said that the Philippines was at 73rd place with visa-free access to 67 destinations.

The Philippine passport was also at the same rank in January this year, along with Cape Verde Islands and Uganda, having visa-free access to 69 destinations.

According to Henley & Partners, the Philippines “has shown stability” in the latest index as it reaffirmed its “consistent position in mobility, with particular strength in access around South East Asia.”

“From 2015 until now, besides COVID-19, the general trend is up for the Philippines passport ranking,” Henley & Partners managing director Scott Moore said in a statement.

“The Philippines is viewed as quite stable right now, and as the Philippine economy continues to grow, it should continue to see improvements on the passport’s visa-free access,” he added. 

Singapore clinched the top spot in the recent passport index, with its citizens enjoying visa-free access to 195 travel destinations out of 227 around the world. 

France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain were all at 2nd place, each with visa-free access to 192 destinations. 

At third spot were Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Korea, and Sweden with visa-free access to 191 destinations.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan remained the weakest passport in the world with only access to 26 destinations visa-free. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
